“The Boys of Summer: Second Inning” July 15–August 28 (return to exhibition)
The second annual “Boys of Summer” exhibition and sale is an eclectic mix of baseball-themed works of contemporary art in wood, clay, glass, paint and steel. Mark Sfirri has added a 2005 edition to his “Rejects From a Bat Factory” Series, as exhibited at the Smithsonian and Yale University art galleries. Painter and sculptor Paul Jacobsen applies his unique style to a tribute to Babe Ruth. Ceramic artist Richard Newman sets a new standard in the art of trompe l’oeil with his stoneware baseball gloves -- until actually touched, each piece appears to be a well-worn leather glove. Glass muralist Michael Dupille "paints" with glass particles to create scenes from a baseball game, and Rob Spinazzola creates large-scale cut steel sculptures of "the world's heaviest baseball cards," as exhibited in the Henry Ford Museum. |
